FAQ T22

What is T22?
T22 is the only tracking device that uses
easy to understand landmarks to show it’s location. The location is determined by GPS satellites and you use a regular GSM phone to send and receive text messages from your T22. It is NOT a navigation device, but instead helps you keep your family, friends and assets safe.

What is GPS?
The Global Positioning System, usually called GPS, is the only fully-functional satellite navigation system. A constellation of more than two dozen GPS satellites broadcasts precise timing signals by radio, allowing any GPS receiver to accurately determine its location (longitude, latitude, and altitude) in any weather, day or night, anywhere on Earth.

GPS has become a vital global utility, indispensable for modern navigation on land, sea, and air around the world, as well as an important tool for map-making and land surveying. GPS also provides an extremely precise time reference, required for telecommunications and some scientific research, including the study of earthquakes. GPS receivers can also gauge altitude and speed with a very high degree of accuracy.

What affects GPS accuracy?
Many factors affect how accurate your GPS is. The atmosphere, the ionosphere and the position of your receiver could all affect GPS accuracy. Any buildings, natural structures or heavy foliage that obstructs the GPS' view of the sky may decrease the position accuracy.

Does my T22 need a SIM card?
Yes, think of your T22 as another phone. You insert a SIM card and that phone number is where you send your text messages to.

What if I am outside GSM coverage area?
Your T22 will store up to 20 outgoing messages until it is connected to the GSM network. Incoming messages to your T22 are stored in the GSM network.

What if I go inside a building and lose GPS signal?
Your T22 stores your location when you enter the building and once outside and moving it will start updating your location again. The same applies to tunnels.

Why is my T22 not responding?

  • Check if the unit has power and not sleeping. You may see this with its green LED blinking. If this is your first use or the unit has been stored, charge the battery for 3.5 hours.
  • If your T22 is installed then verify that GSM is working by calling the unit to see if you hear a ring tone.

If no ring tone:

  • There may be no GSM coverage, so move the unit to a suitable location.
  • Verify that the PIN code was removed from the SIM.
  • Remove the PIN code from the SIM.
  • Verify you have the correct phone number.
  • Verify that the SIM is properly inserted.

If you hear a ring tone:

  • Verify that the pre-paid SIM has credits (you can check that the SIM is ok by inserting it in a mobile phone and sending an SMS).
  • Verify the user has a high enough authority to send the command.
  • Verify that your phone number is correct in the user list. If you are not sure you can easily re-register yourself as the owner by sending OWNER,password to the unit.
  • Remove and re-insert the battery in the unit, or send the BOOT command via SMS to your T22.

How does T22's security system work?
There are 3 user levels in the system:

  1. Owner - Can issue configuration commands and all below.
  2. Friend - Can use the reporting of the system and Guest commands.
  3. Guest - Can issue Find, Help and Status commands.

Unregistered users and users without high enough security will not receive any response from the T22. This prevents unauthorized access of your location.

The owner sets a password that can be used to re-register if your phone is lost.

What if I lose my phone?
You can re-register yourself as an owner by sending OWNER,password to your T22.

What if I move to another country?
You can update the landmarks in your T22 for over 220 countries.

I am unable to get my first location for more than 5 minutes, what could be the problem?

  1. There should be no nearby tall buildings or houses.
  2. Antenna signal will not pass through metallic or magic type tint.
  3. Vehicle should not be moving when trying to get your first fix.
  4. Units should not be placed or covered behind metal objects.
  5. Acquiring your first location should take only 1 to 5 minutes with a good GPS signal in the area. Should the acquiring of a signal take too long, simply remove the unit's battery and re-insert it again - this re-starts the search process.

How long does it take for the unit to get its position?
With ideal conditions 1 to 5 minutes the first time you use the unit. The unit can re-establish its location in a few seconds.

How many landmarks can the system hold?
T22 can hold over 15,000 landmarks. Users can add hundreds of their own landmarks.

How can I tell if new Landmarks or software is available for my T22?
There is an option in Manager to check your T22 for any new releases.

Why is my T22 not charging?

  • Check that the battery is installed.
  • If first use or after a long period of storage, charge the battery for 3.5 hours. The power light will come on in 5-10 minutes.
  • Replace the battery. Like mobile phones a T22 battery will wear out after a few years.

How long does the battery last?
One day with constant usage and weeks with limited activity. This is determined by how much time the unit is sleeping.

How do I take out the battery from the T22?
Press and slide the battery cover. Gently push the notch lock of the battery. Lift the battery out.

How do the sleep modes work?
T22 is designed only to use power when moving. T22 goes to sleep one hour after a trip or 10 minutes after waking up. T22 uses progressive sleep modes to save battery life. These modes are configurable.

  • The first mode shuts off the GPS and wakes up once an hour for 6 hours.
  • The second mode shuts off the GPS and GSM and wakes up once an hour for 5 days.
  • The third mode is like the second but wakes up once a day until the battery is depleted.

T22 wakes up when movement is detected, the ignition is turned on, a button is pressed, or when an SMS is received (sleep mode 1 only). You can turn sleep mode off, or change the wakeup time and length of the sleep modes.

Can I have more than one zone with my T22?
No, only one zone may be active per user. If you add a new zone the existing one shall be replaced. Each user can set their own zone, so the T22 can keep track of 10 zones.

Can the Trip Start report be turned off so that I still receive the Trip End summary?
Yes, just send the command set,tripstart,0 to your T22.

Is Tramigo ISO certified?
Our T22 Manufacturing and Assembly is ISO certified, and copies of the certificates are available upon request.

How do I know the IMEI of my unit?
There are several ways:

  1. Send VERSION command to the unit.
  2. Take out the battery and check the sticker on the unit.
  3. Check the box of your T22 under the barcodes.

To know that your T22 is not a fake, check that the IMEI on the sticker under the battery is the same as the IMEI mentioned in the output after sending VERSION command to the unit.

How accurate is TLD (Tramigo Landmark Data)?
Since every landmark is selected and geo-referenced individually (Tramigo does NOT use inaccurate and generalized third party data), the position accuracy of our landmarks is extremely high (within 20 meters), much higher than the general industry standard.

Why every town or village does not have detailed Point of Interest landmarks?
Because of the memory size limitations of Tramigo T22 (15000 landmarks maximum), the size of every TLD is optimized in a way that Point of Interest landmarks cover all capitals and major cities and as many villages as possible.

How far TLD landmarks are from each other (landmark density)?
Landmark density varies from capitals and major cities (50 - 500 meters) to rural areas where village density defines distance of individual landmarks.

What countries have TLD landmark coverage?
TLD landmarks are available for every country, excluding Japan, South Korea and North Korea (countries without 2G GSM network).

How are TLD landmarks selected?
Landmarks that are used for tracking purposes always include plenty of intelligence in a way how local landmarks are selected. TLD does not include all landmarks, only meaningful landmarks with local significance for tracking usage. This guarantees best possible user friendliness and functionality together with T22 features.

How often does Tramigo update TLD landmarks?
Due to the dynamic and chancing nature of landmarks, Tramigo is committed to continuous updates of its data to ensure the best possible quality of every TLD. Landmarks for every country are updated and verified several times every year.

How can I add my own landmarks into my T22?
You can add your own landmarks into TLD by using the “AddPlace” feature (See T22 Manual).

How can I give feedback about TLD landmarks?
You can mail feedback and suggestions to

What is Tramigo Manager?
TM is a PC program that allows you to update the software and landmarks in your T22 unit. You can also load pre-set configurations for the various T22 install options. You can download Tramigo Manager from http://www.tramigo.net/tramigomanager/TramigoManager11NOV2011.zip

I get Invalid or expired key file - why is that?
Your key file may be outdated or expired. In Tramigo Manager select Firmware Update Check to request a new key file or contact TramigoSupport for a new key file and be ready to provide the IMEI of your unit.

What if my T22 is not in GSM coverage and sends SMS message(s), what will happen to these SMS Messages?
T22 can store up to 20 SMS messages and will send at the first opportunity once GSM signal has been retrieved. Incoming SMS to your T22 are stored by the GSM operator.

How can we check if T22 has credits on it if we are using a prepaid SIM?
Use the LB (LowBalance) command if your credit reports are via SMS. T22 will forward to you an SMS message from the mobile number you have specified in the LB command.

If I have added multiple user locations but with the same name and issue delete command, will it delete all those user added locations?
T22 will only store one user location with the same name, so if you add another landmark (using the AddPlace command) with the same name, the first landmark is deleted.

How can we change the text of the T22 reports?
Contact support for assistance in creating a custom Language File (LF) for your application.

If I have periodic find for a time interval and my unit goes to sleep mode, will it still send SMS messages?
No. The unit will stop the timer and will resume when the unit wakes up.

What is M1 Move?
M1 Move is a software for your smart phone that provides menus for using your T22 and can display the locations on your mobile.

See the user manual for system requirements and features. You can download M1 Move from http://www.tramigo.net/m1move.asp

Why am I getting INVALID Command response from my T22?
For M1 Move to work you must have T22 firmware 1.40 and later. You can upgrade your T22 using Tramigo Manager.

What is M1 Fleet?
M1 Fleet is a software for PC that provides simple fleet management and location displays on a map. See the user manual for system requirements and features. You can download M1 Fleet from http://www.tramigo.net/m1fleet.asp

I’m getting a response from my T22 but I can’t see my location in Web based maps!
Send the command Coord,on>Coord, dec to your T22 and send a Find command again. Successive reports will now be shown on the map.

How many vehicles can I add?
There is no limit set to the number of vehicles you can add, however you should limit the number of incoming SMS as the modem can only handle between 10-20 concurrent SMS before it will bog down. If setting automatic find reports, then space them out to reduce load on the modem. Also use the distance find to reduce the load when Tramigo’s are not moving.

Can I use a phone as a modem?
Phones are not suitable as an SMS modem because they are hard to keep running over long periods of time. Phone chargers are not designed to be plugged in for weeks, so for M1 Fleet use the Siemens modems we recommend. They will run for months without a problem.

How do I see the breadcrumb trail?

  1. Turn on periodic find, either time or distance.
  2. Turn on trip reporting.
  3. Gather trip and location reports.
  4. Double click on a Trip report to see the trail on the map.

Why does nothing display in What’s New?
Possible causes: You have no Internet connection, or you replied No when your firewall software asked to allow M1 Fleet to connect to the Internet. You may have an office firewall blocking access.

Why are my Maps not displaying?
Possible causes: No or slow Internet connection. Web based maps site blocked by administrator (firewall) - try searching for a new online map. Coordinates not in report - re-register T22 to turn on coordinates.

I deleted a Tramigo by mistake - what do I do?
Just re-add the Tramigo and your old reports will still be listed.

I see SMS received but there are no reports to view?
M1 will only add a report if the phone numbers match. Check that the phone number in the Tramigo Settings tab matches the phone number of the incoming SMS.

It could also be SPAM SMS that the system received. To see the raw SMS in the database see the section in the User Manual on Exporting Data.

Google Maps or Google Earth - which one should I use?
Google Maps is best if Google has good quality maps for your area. You can check by looking here:

http://gmaps-samples.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/mapcoverage_filtered.html

Google Earth is best if you need to work offline sometimes since you can set the map cache larger to store your maps for offline use. Google Earth maps are also updated before Google Maps. You can also use your own street overlays. Note Google Earth uses more system resources, but is normally faster than Google Maps.
